What to Wear for Your Newborn Session (Simple, Stress-Free Guide)
WOne of the most common questions I get is, “What should we wear?” The good news—this doesn’t have to be complicated.
For newborn sessions, simple is always best.
Start with soft, neutral tones like creams, whites, light grays, and muted earth colors. These shades keep the focus on your baby and create a timeless look that won’t feel dated years from now. Avoid bright colors, bold patterns, or large logos—they tend to distract and pull attention away from those sweet, tiny details.
For moms, flowy dresses or soft sweaters photograph beautifully and feel comfortable during the session. Think movement, texture, and pieces you feel good in. For dads, a neutral henley, sweater, or button-down paired with simple pants works perfectly. Keep it relaxed and cohesive, not overly styled.
If siblings are joining, dress them in similar tones to create a soft, coordinated look without matching exactly. Barefoot is always a great option for little ones.
And for baby? While I provide wraps and simple styling for your newborn, you’re welcome to bring a special outfit if you’d like. If you do, choose something that coordinates with your family’s color palette, soft, neutral tones work best for a cohesive look. Keep it simple and comfortable, and we can easily incorporate it into your session.
The biggest thing to remember—you don’t need to overthink this. When your outfits are simple and comfortable, your images feel natural, connected, and focused on what matters most: your family.
